K-3 Formative Assessment Process–Unpacking the Think Tank Report Webinar

The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction’s Office of Early Learning will conduct a webinar on February 12, 2014, to update the field regarding the progress being made in the development and implementation of a statewide KEA/K-3 formative assessment process designed to improve learning experiences for children during the early grades.

The purpose of the webinar will be to review the content of the recently published K-3 Assessment for Teaching and Learning Think Tank Report. This report was presented to Dr. Atkinson, State Superintendent in October of 2013 and serves as the driving force for the current assessment design phase of the project. The content of the report includes research-based educational claims about what is essential for children in kindergarten through third grade to know and be able to do and emphasizes the integrated nature of learning and child development during the early years. During the webinar, participants will unpack these educational claims.

In addition to this webinar, the regional K-3 assessment consultants will be facilitating face to face, interactive unpacking sessions with LEA Prek-3 leaders. These sessions will be scheduled with respect to the needs of LEAs in each region.
