K-3 Formative Assessment Update Webinar – July 25, 2013

In response to legislation passed by NC General Assembly, and to meet requirements of the Race to the Top Early Learning Challenge grant, NCDPI’s Office of Early Learning is designing a developmentally appropriate, individualized formative assessment process for K-3 children.

This formative assessment process will be aligned with both North Carolina’s Early Learning and Development Standards and the Standard Course of Study (CCSS and NC Essential Standards). Through observations, conversations, work samples, and tasks embedded into daily instruction, this assessment process will provide teachers and students with information to guide learning and teaching.

A webinar is scheduled for Thursday, July 25, from 3:30–4:30 PM. Office of Early Learning K-3 Assessment staff will provide updates about the development process, recent activities, and inform participants of upcoming opportunities for involvement.

Throughout our development work, we will be partnering with Dr. Margaret Heritage, a nationally known Formative Assessment expert. You can learn more about her by visiting her webpage.
